I love Spotify. I use it every day and find it hard to imagine a time living without it. I can't wait to see how it evolves and I even like some of the AI generated playlists, they are mostly pretty spot on (although I could do without a playlist inspired by me playing 'Poo Bum Poo Bum' by Poopy Man as a joke once).

But whilst this convenience is nice and I wont give it up, I do love going into a store to browse for music. When I grew up getting my hands on new music was prohibitively expensive and difficult. But it made everything feel much more valuable. I even miss the grumpy and chain smoking record store owner in the town where I grew up. The smell. The grunts. All of it.

There is also something in the feeling of putting on a record, listening to it and the warmth of the sound (imperfections and all). During a weak moment a couple of years ago, I got back into it. And whilst listening to Ok Computer on Vinyl felt a bit pretentious and wankerish, I loved it. It just felt good.

So whilst I haven't done it for a while, I think it's time for some good old vinyl again. Just me, coffee and a some tunes.
